It should shock you that 47% of American adults suffer from periodontitis which is an advanced form of gum disease. According to the CDC, when surveying American population over 65 years old, that percentage increases to 70%!

This disease can go unnoticed for a time before the symptoms start showing themselves. Bleeding while brushing and flossing, red, swollen, and irritated gums, and consistent bad breath are all indicators of gum disease.

If you've noticed any of these in your own mouth, it's a good idea to visit a dentist as soon as possible. Letting the gingival bacteria multiply and take over could increase your risk of heart disease, heart attack, respiratory disease, and contribute to type 2 diabetes.

At Overman Family Dentistry, it's our desire to care for your overall health, not just what's going on in your mouth. When it comes to periodontitis, we see this as a disease that affects your overall health so we are motivated and trained to treat it early on to reduce the long-term effects it can have on your teeth and your body.

Perio Protect is a non-invasive and non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease that uses a tray and medicated gel to deliver medicated gel deep below the gum line to kill the gingival bacteria before it can spread and multiply. This method, coupled with your regular periodontal maintenance cleanings, will help to slow down any bone loss resulting from the bacteria and keep your gums from being swollen, red, and sensitive.
