There are a number of ways teeth can get damaged, and there are a number of ways you can and should repair them. Cavities, which can form in your teeth as a result of acid produced from the fermenting of bacteria, should never go untreated. Damage to the enamel of your teeth can also create cause for concern, as the enamel is the covering that protects the more vulnerable portion of the tooth, and if damaged, it can make the tooth’s interior more susceptible breakage or cavities. The same goes for broken teeth. When trauma occurs to the area in or around the mouth, there is always a risk of breaking a tooth. When this happens, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible.
Depending on the damage, there are varying degrees of procedures which one can undergo to fix a wide range of damage to the teeth. Using fillings, composites, alloys, ceramics, and crowns and bridges, we can restore the health, look, and feel of your teeth!
Fillings are most commonly used to repair teeth holding cavities, but can also be used as a means to restore cracked or broken teeth. To fill your cavity, we will clean out and remove the portion of your tooth that is decayed. We will then carefully fill and seal it with the filling. This will prevent the tooth from decaying further.
Crowns and bridges are used to stabilize existing teeth and bridge any gaps between them. They are a permanent solution for
gaps and cracks that exist between both natural and implanted teeth. The crown is used as a cap to protect damaged teeth, while the bridge portion serves to close unneeded spacing.
Ceramics or porcelain can be used in the making of crowns, bridges and veneers. The white color makes it an aesthetically pleasing and durable alternative to alloys, plus, it is biocompatible, meaning it reacts normally when placed among natural occurring materials within the human body.
