Missing Teeth

We experience tooth loss as children, but as adults, we hope we never have to. There are a number of causes for tooth loss. You may need to have a tooth extracted due to oral health problems. Some lose teeth due to trauma or blunt force applied to the mouth resulting in teeth being knocked out.  Sometimes, a tooth just might not form where it’s supposed to. Whatever the reason, missing teeth can lead to a number of other dental and oral problems in the future if not dealt with. Problems with chewing and biting force, jaw pain, or tooth decay are just a few problems a missing tooth can provoke.

Solutions for Missing Teeth

As experienced dental professionals, we understand that when a patient is dealing with a missing tooth or teeth, he or she wants to be treated carefully, as well as quickly. We offer the following solutions and will help you decide which one is right for you.

The purpose of a dental bridge is to do just what it implies. Bridge a gap between teeth.  We will create a false tooth called a ‘pontic’ which is anchored by two crowns on both bordering teeth or implants. The purpose of a bridge is not only to aesthetically repair your smile, but also to restore your ability to chew properly and to stabilize remaining teeth so they do not drift from their proper positions.

Dental implants are artificial teeth meant to fill in gaps left by missing teeth. These implants are inserted into the bone. Eventually, implants will join with the bone; however they do feel slightly different than natural teeth do.  Implants work to support crowns in tooth bridging as well as to anchor tooth movement. The healing time varies from patient to patient, but the expected recovery time is 2 – 6 months.

Dentures are the impermanent alternative to implants. The purpose of dentures is to replace missing teeth and the tissues surrounding them. As we mentioned, they are an impermanent alternative, meaning they are removable. We offer dentures in complete and partial sets depending on your needs, and will work with you over a span of weeks to create and customize dentures to fit your mouth comfortably.
